I have just published a book that I wrote along with Pete Navarro who spent 27 years studying the complete collection of known Dellschau drawings. He is the man who broke Dellschau's code and assembled the story Dellschau hid witin his drawings. The book can be reviewed at, www.secretsofdellschau.com
I also invite those interested in this amazing man and his secretive drawings to join in discussions of Dellschau and the Airship mysteries of the 1800s at;

I should clarify that I speak only of the eight-string double-cursed instrument.

Oops, I mean double-coursed. Twice the strings! Now genuinely impossible to tune!

Dear Lynne,

Among the mandolin community the preferred term is 'banjolin,' which hleps to shift the blame for the instrument to the banjo players.

Right on, Stephen.

I seem to recall hearing about broadsheets, newspaper, handbill something or others providing info at the time, and in some of the non-ballad recountings I have read there are fairly detailed accounts of the murder and the trial and such, presumably from court records.

I did not take good notes, but when I was locating the grave this spring, I kept coming across references to a recently-ish deceased woman who was the acknowledged scholarship expert in the field, someone from NC, who actually had a published monograph summarizing her research. I'm pretty sure that "Omie Wise" was in the title of the work.

I'm sorry not to have better threads for you right now - but - I'm at work.

Beyond that, this is a good step toward the murder ballad tour thing, i think. Keep digging!
